An elevated view of George Yard Shopping Centre

George Yard offers all you’d expect from a quaint market town shopping centre. In fact many say it has so much more than they were expecting, which delights us every time we hear it.

We have outlined below all the bits of information we think you'd need to have a great outing to George Yard and you'll see we cater for everyone. Come on down and enjoy the atmosphere.

George Yard Shopping Centre Information

  • Town centre shoppers guides, historical tour guides covering the town centre and other interesting leaflets are available from the Management Suite in George Yard Shopping Centre.
  • Centre maps are displayed on entrance notice boards.
  • A public noticeboard displays community notices on a board on the outside of the car park. if you would like to have a notice put up please bring it to the Management Suite.

Toilets

  • Public conveniences are provided near the entrance to the car park. The toilets include a separate disabled-friendly loo and a unisex babychange with its own integral WC and wash facilities.

Transport

  • The town’s multi storey car park offers plenty of parking immediately adjacent to George Yard Shopping Centre (715 spaces); other parking around the town offers another 700 spaces.
  • Use of an electric scooter for disabled people is provided by the Centre. The scooter can be booked by anybody who needs to use one and offers freedom of movement throughout the town centre. There is also a manual wheel-chair which can be borrowed. Call 01376 550373 for bookings. Please note that you need to be able to prove your name and address when first booking the scooter. Each use will cost £1.
  • Bike racks are provided at the west end of the centre. (Please note that we ask people not to ride any bikes in the centre, for the safety of all visitors)
  • The town centre bus park is a short walk from George Yard Shopping Centre whilst the railway station is just a little further, but still walking distance.

Activities

  • Events are held under the Bandstand – a high glazed roof in the centre of the site. If you would like to organise an event here please contact the Centre.
  • Childrens rides and a photo machine are also located close to the car park entrance.
  • There is a public telephone near to the car park.

Food

  • Cafes in the centre include Eatons, Bakers Oven and Brambles in quadrant.
  • Eat outside at Eatons all year round.
