Braintree Supporting Sport Partnership
is a source of funds for young people from the Braintree area who
have the potential to be national and international level athletes,
but who have not yet reached a level where they attract funding
from other sources. The group also seeks other ways of supporting
sportspeople by finding other in-kind types of support.
Local businesses are joining together,
with support from Braintree District Council, to enable the Braintree
Supporting Sports Partnership to help young people represent the
District, County and Country in national and international events –
culminating with the London 2012 Olympics.
The Company View
Local businesses are joining together to:
- Help young Braintree sportspeople
get gold (or at least enable a youngster to achieve as much
as they can)
- Meet Corporate Social
Responsibility targets
- Take part in the selection
process and attend events or just bathe in the reflected glory – it’s
your choice
When you or
your company feel that this is a worthwhile way of supporting
individually identified youngsters in a way which nobody else
does – and for which you will get some publicity – and
enables you to make no effort beyond sending some money (but
you can actively participate if you wish) please join us as a
Member. Our affiliation to sportessex enables us to release Gift
Aid as well, which multiplies your generosity.

George Yard Shopping Centre, as a part of BSSP Braintree Supporting
Sports Partnership, have already publicised Martin Pitts, Hannah
Bright and Lisa
Potter as receiving the first set of awards.
David Fryatt and Aleasha
Kiddle are the recipients of the second set of Braintree Supporting
Sports Partnership awards.
The Selection
Process
Sportspeople who live or train in Braintree may apply at any time. You will be
asked to supply details of your achievements and then attend a personal interview.
The funding will be secure, providing that you meet the targets set for you,
on an annual basis until 2012 – and may be used for any purpose (including
travel) connected with your sport. The funding is released when receipts are
presented.

We look forward to hearing from
you - Brenda Baker Chair BSSP

Braintree Supporting Sport Partnership are very
pleased to announce that these three companies have agreed to
sponsor more young local sportspeople.
VSG Security, Colchester Skip Hire and MicroMech
have all added their names to the list of companies working
together to promote
Braintree’s hopes of going for gold.
“Fostering young peoples ambitions in this way helps everybody,” said
Chair Brenda Baker.
Last year we announced that we were supporting five athletes
and I am very pleased to be in the middle of choosing another
group who will receive sponsorship for this coming year.
Not only have they financially supported the athletes and swimmers,
BSSP have been able to organise a free session with the Human
Performance Laboratory at the University of Essex for each one
as well. When final feedback from the laboratory is received,
BSSP will be able to decide how to take their recommendations
forward.
BSSP is also going to be offering a free training session on
the production of personal portfolios for all the athletes and
coaches who have applied to BSSP this year. Any other young athlete
who lives in Braintree may also apply for a place at the seminar
in July.
